Not to be missed!

Only 1 week until the IPU National Pharmacy Conference in Galway next weekend – have you signed up yet? Can’t make the full weekend? We have day rates for both Friday (€55) and Saturday (€85) so come along and enjoy at least part of the weekend.

What’s happening on Saturday?

Saturday’s agenda is jam-packed with a fantastic line-up of speakers all day. As well as our educational sessions, we also have our Plenary Session taking place that morning. Minister for Health Simon Harris TD will open the session, followed by our world-class international speakers including:

Margaret Wing, CEO, Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA)

The Alberta Model for pharmacy practice is recognised as one of the most progressive and comprehensive in Canada, if not the world. Join Margaret Wing, as she describes how a little-known Canadian province became the model and envy of the pharmacy profession around the world and the lessons that we can take here in Ireland.

Dr Ross T. Tsuyuki, Professor and Chair, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta

Dr Tsuyuki is a pharmacist and a widely-published health services researcher with a particular focus on chronic disease management in the community. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and received the Department of Medicine’s Clinical Investigation Publication Award in 2016.

Calling on his vast experience, Dr Tsuyuki will talk to us about the experience in Canada where pharmacists use the full scope of pharmacy practice including prescribing, laboratory testing, injections, and disease management programmes to benefit patients and the health system.

Terence A. Maguire, Pharmacist and Honorary Senior Lecturer, School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast

Terence is a leading community pharmacist from Northern Ireland and a regular contributor to Irish pharmacy publications. His articles are inspirational and insightful in equal measure, with a tinge of humour thrown in for good measure. His talk will consider the current and evolving services provided from community pharmacies across Europe and the lessons for pharmacists in Ireland to adapt a future where artificial intelligence and robotics will rapidly overtake the current supply function of local pharmacies.

Stay for the afternoon

Saturday’s programme continues with our highly-anticipated panel discussion Sláintecare: The Future Shape of Healthcare, chaired by Priscilla Lynch, well-known medical journalist and health commentator. We are delighted to have Laura Magahy, Executive Director at Sláintecare on the panel to explore pharmacy’s role in implementing Sláintecare. You will have the opportunity to ask questions during the discussion.

Don’t miss out – register now and join your colleagues for an enjoyable and eye-opening experience.

See you next weekend!
